Elegant, residential, quietly upscale. Embassies and the Vatican across the river.
The Haussmann of Rome — wide grid streets, plane trees, fin-de-siècle palazzi. Quiet, premium, full of cafés. Vatican is your neighbor across the bridge.
Prati was built late (1880s onward) on what used to be papal meadows — hence the rare-in-Rome grid layout, wide boulevards, and uniform 19th-century palazzi. It feels closer to Paris than to medieval Rome.
Everything is on Via Cola di Rienzo: Coin, Castroni, the COIN supermarket, the upscale-everyday shopping. Mercato Trionfale is one of Rome's best food markets. Coffee culture is everywhere — Sciascia, Bonci, Pergamino.
Transit is excellent: two metro stops (Ottaviano, Lepanto, line A), the Lungotevere bus arteries, and a bridge walk to Centro Storico (Castel Sant'Angelo to Piazza Navona is 8 minutes). Vatican Museums are 10 minutes on foot.
Best for: families (real apartments with real rooms), senior professionals, embassy staff, anyone planning a 12-month-plus stay. Quieter than Trastevere, more residential than Centro, better value per square metre than either.
